Cycling in Ireland

Ireland is a place steeped in history, romance with legendary landscapes and excellent biking roads. In fact, the amount of cycling paths is about the same as in England. With its mild climate and beautiful scenery, you come across more sheep than cars while cycling in Ireland!

Fascinating history, lively culture, perfect pints of Guinness and friendly people add to the allure of cycling in Ireland. Not to mention the health benefits of cycling. The famed potato famine, mystical stone circles and legends of the pirate queen Grace O’Malley, are just some bits of an ancient history that is both mysterious and romantic. In fact, a typical day’s cycling can easily encompass about 3000 years of history.

It was while looking up military injuries claims that I read about the joys of cycling in Ireland. It offers the best way of discovering the land and travel through it. The Irish are great conversationalists, or should I say story-tellers? The lack of a language barrier is a big advantage, I must add.

There are many groups that offer bike tours in Ireland. Some of them cater to first-time peddlers while others are geared towards stronger cyclists. Though the weather is mild, it is always best to be prepared for a bit of rain.

If you are traveling from England, you can opt for the ferry or fly down. Some of the ferries are the Norfolkline, the Stena Line, the Irish Ferries and the Swansea Cork Ferries. The popular airlines are Aerlingus, and Aerarann.

Once you are there, you will be bowled over by the gorgeous ancient land that is so scenic you may be tempted to extend your holiday!
