It is really surprising how people purchase changing room furniture made of plastic and then proceed to buy heavy bicycles made of metal. If you are interested in cycling a lot, then the most sensible option is to choose the lightest cycle in the market. There is a misconception that cycles made of carbon fiber or plastic will not last long. Well, when you can purchase furniture for your house made of plastic and can use it for years at a stretch, where is a question of being hesitant when purchasing a cycle made of nonmetallic components?

Some others are of the opinion that such a cycle will not help them exercise properly. Well, the fact that you are in a position to push yourself over long-distance with minimum effort will encourage you to work harder. In any case, exercising with the cycle requires mental strength and the fact that you are using a carbon fiber cycle instead of a metal one is hardly a relevant issue.

The benefits of such New Age modern cycles do not end here. You will be in a position to spend more money on expensive accessories simply because you have saved money on your bicycle. A carbon fiber device will work out cheaper and you will have more money to set up an expensive and sophisticated gear system for your cycling experience. Or, you can purchase gear that will help you ride the bicycle like a real expert.

If you still have doubts, just take a look at the safety accessories that are sold along with the cycle. You will realize that almost all the safety accessories make use of carbon fiber and hardened plastic. And you can make use of the helmet that is made of carbon fiber for the safety of your head, then where is the question of rejecting the same for the cycle?

Those who enjoy cycling will definitely want to try the many spectacular trails comprising of rolling countryside in Northern Ireland. The southern side has more arduous trails due to the mountainous region. If you are going as a group, make sure everyone is carrying the required gear. Changing room benches are a great place to cross check if someone has missed out on something that could be essential for an incident for the trip. Being close to the Atlantic, the incoming fronts can often result in rain so make sure you are not caught unprepared.

There are designated routes ear marked for the cyclist but these may peter out towards the junctions. The official cycling booklet marks out 24 routes in the northern and southern part each of them more breath-taking than the other. If you are planning on a long trip, you can avail of the many campsites that dot the routes. Most of them are pretty decent and offer minimum to extensive facilities. It is best to be armed with a detailed map of the region you are going to. Irish signposts are not among the best and chances are you might be forced to fall back on the maps at some point. If you need to transport your bike, most buses will oblige if there is space in the luggage compartment.

The routes in the more remote areas can be pretty narrow so exercise caution while in the tourist areas. The road surface is not always smooth and can be quite poor in places. Watch out for lumps, bumps and potholes. Shops in the region tend to stay open till late at night and in fact most of Sundays too. In fact, most petrol bunks have a small store attached where you can pick up the essentials. With these precautions your cycling trip is sure to be one that you will cherish for long.

It is a surprising how individuals who are just beginning to explore the sport of cycling take so many things for granted. They presume that they will easily find a mechanic who will repair their flat tire no matter where they are. They will presume that they will find medical assistance even when they are cycling in the middle of nowhere. They presume that they will get something to eat from a joint or outlet when they feel famished at two in the morning.

This is one reason why planning cycling trips is so much fun. A person with experience will tell you that you should be prepared to take care of all possible contingencies and eventualities on your own. At no point of time can you presume that you will get assistance from others. This is when amateur cyclists conclude that the sport is a bit too dangerous for their liking. How can one repair a flat tire at two in the morning on an isolated road? The very thought can seem very scary.

Further, the fact that you are completely dependent on your strength and physical abilities to travel from one place to another can also have a huge impact on your psyche. If you stop working on the pedal of the bicycle, you will have no option but to stay where you are. In a world where pressing a button helps us travel thousands of miles without any discomfort whatsoever, relying on the bicycle to travel from one place to another may seem futile and unnecessary.

As amateurs start biking more often, they will notice distinctive changes in the way they think and behave. Instead of complaining about the noisy changing room furniture, they will proceed ahead and focus on doing something about it. As you cycle more often, you will find yourself adopting a can-do approach and will be constructive and solution oriented instead of expecting others to solve your problems.

If I were to pick my favorite two modes of exercise, then they would be swimming and cycling; if I had to choose just one, then I think it would be cycling. I find both swimming and cycling very smooth and comfortable, but the feature that makes me to prefer cycling over swimming is the fact that it allows me to enjoy the beautiful nature around me. There were times when I would go for swimming with both my swimming and cycling gear. I left the cycling gear in one of the lockers in the changing room and after I was finished with swimming I picked my cycling gear and went for cycling. However I had quit cycling for some time due to pain in the sole of my feet. I was initially told that it was because I am slightly overweight and the pain would subside as I reduce weight.

I wanted to lose weight as fast as possible. I worked hard in the pool and within 3 months time I had lost all my extra weight. I tried cycling again and found that pain was still there. I had started getting frustrated by now.

One fine day as I was walking down the path where I used to cycle regularly, I met a young guy who seemed to be a professional biker. I asked him if he had any clue why I had pain in the sole of my feet while cycling. He asked me to show him my feet. I started smiling, thinking that he was joking. After all I don’t expect his eyes to be x-ray enabled so that he could see into my feet and find the problem. To my surprise he was serious. I took my shoes off and showed him my feet. The moment he saw it he found the problem. He said that I was using wrong shoes. I asked him what he means by that. He said that even though the length of the shoe matches the length of my feet, the width does not. He told me to try cycling without shoes and I cycled for 10 minutes and did not feel pain at all. Right away I knew that I could come cycling starting tomorrow, if I get broader shoes.

One of the best ways to explore Northern Ireland is on two wheels, and not the powered type. Cycling is big in N. Ireland and there are countless routes, groups and classes for people looking to tackle a variety of landscapes.

Like with any sport, injury can happen, if you have been unlucky enough to suffer an injury and feel that the advice or treatment given to you was less than appropriate, then you could be entitled to make a professional negligence compensation claim.

If however you’re lucky and injury doesn’t hamper you cycling, then some of the places that are worth looking into are as follows: the Giant’s Causeway to Benone, which is 22 miles in total. Apart from the Giant’s Causeway the other main points of interest in this route include the Bushmill’s Distillery, which offer tours and tasting sessions, Dunluce Castle and Benon Beach.

For a family affair there is the Gosford Forest park family cycling trail; this route is only 4 miles in length, but it still has some interesting sights along the way. There is the Green Fort arboretum, a conservation pond as well as a number of deer.

If you have a passion for archaeology as well as cycling, then the White Hare cycle route is definitely for you. This route is a total of 36 miles in length, the first sight you will come to is the seven stone circles at Beaghmore, next will be the standing stones at by the Owenkillew River. The other main sight along this route is the impressive Creggandevesky Court Tomb, the views from the tomb are fantastic and it is a great spot to take a well earned breather.

These are just a couple of the routes available in Northern Ireland, some are short and some are long, it all depends on what you want and who you need to cater for. For more information look up Cycle NI website, here you can download brochures that cover a variety of activities in the area.

Whether you are cycling for leisure, to save on fuel costs, to get fitter or are doing it as a hobby or even as your profession, there is always the chance you may suffer an injury. Of course, if you are new to it or have only recently taken it up again there is the dreaded saddle sore, but this does ease over time.

There are a number of other common injuries that can occur to cyclists; however, they are generally easy to recover from. Good to know that if you are cycling on public roads and suffer an injury due to the poor condition of the road you may be entitled to compensation from the local authority.

Depending on the injury and its severity the amount awarded can vary from the low hundreds to possibly even thousands. If the amount awarded is high, then it is advisable to place it into a personal injury trusts claim account.

There is a cost to setting up a fund, but the benefits far outweigh the costs involved. If for example you are in receipt of any means tested benefits, then the fund enables you to continue receiving these benefits.

Keeps it safe and stops it from being spent all at once, hence giving you a more secure financial future, especially in later years, where health issues may arise and the cost of private nursing or home visits come into effect. Trustees are in charge of managing your money and how it is invested and in the case of a marital break-up the compensation is protected.

There are many solicitors that have the means to be able to assist you with setting up one of these funds, in most cases the solicitor that took the original personal injury claim has the ability to action the trust fund as well.

The cycle was and remains the fastest form of transportation without involving any artificial source of energy. Not surprisingly, many persons love cycling simply because it helps them spend some time in the open without traveling too fast. The evolution of cycling gear and accessories has taken place over a long time.

There was a time when people felt that having something to drink after cycling for a long time would be very nice. Having a bag back and storing a water canteen in it was the most sensible option. However, one disadvantage of such an approach was that the individual had to stop cycling to replenish the lost water. That is when people realize that a simple hook fitted to a bar of the cycle would be enough to hold the water canteen.

Safety was always an important issue and stronger and sturdier helmets ensured that the delicate parts of the body were protected from complications. Of course, plastic became the most preferred material because it was light and strong. As far as attire was concerned, people discovered that wearing something that would flop around and pose a lot of resistance to the wind could code automatically reduce the speed.

That is the reason why people opted for skins compression wear that would stick to the skin and absorb sweat without slowing down the cyclist. Many of these accessories became popular amongst racing cyclists before other individuals started using the same. The process of evolution continues as people try to get maximum results from the effort they put on the pedal of the cycle.

I planned a lovely cycle trip recently with some friends. We will start out in Dublin, and explore the alleys and byways of this lively city by bike. One route I am really looking forward to experiencing is following the banks of the River Liffey as it winds through the city centre to the port and the other way through suburbs and out into the glorious countryside.

Another highlight for me will be the visit to Newgrange in the Boyne Valley. This is a Stone Age passage tomb, built about 3200 BCE and aligned to the winter solstice.

In preparation for this trip, one of my friends was lucky enough to be able to buy a new bike. He chose a Raleigh hybrid, a great, reliable classic manufacturer that has always either kept up with the cycling times or even been an innovator. And the hybrid is perfect for the sorts of trips we are planning: both city streets in Dublin and some off-road exploring in the countryside. He went the full hog and got the little extras such as mudguards and a chainguard that can make a long cycle trip much more enjoyable.

As all bike-lovers know, there is only one downside to getting a new bike delivered – the massive packaging it comes in. When you strip the bike box off your new two wheels, the cardboard can just about overwhelm you. I was there when the bike was delivered, and the two of us ending up flailing around under what seemed like a mound of cardboard packaging.

But we found the perfect solution to disposing of this. Give it to someone with an allotment. The cardboard is thick and heavy, perfect to protect newly dug soil or a layer of manure, and the box is so big it will cover plenty of space. Reuse, or as we cyclists would always say, recycle.

Being a cycling nut, it’s important for me to be able to access this blog and my other social networks from wherever I am. Considering the huge roaming charges that mobile companies seem unwilling to shift on, it was nice to find a provider that didn’t cost the earth to use when I was in France.

The tour itself was magnificent with some of the finest racing I’d ever seen in cycling and it reminded me how lucky I am to be able to do this even if it is only in my spare time. When I returned to Ireland I was saddened to read of a report on the BBC website about an ardent cyclist who was killed whilst in Ecuador on a fundraising trip for charity. The Irish are never ones to remain in mourning for extended periods of time, so it was lovely to read about how the man’s family joined Cycle Ireland and rode for his Hospice Charity in memory of him. That is why cycling is brilliant. It can bring people together especially when times are tough and remind us all of what life is all about.

I took part in the Cycle Ireland tour myself as I do every year, but this year’s ride was especially wonderful for me. Not only had I got myself a new hybrid bike from Garry Fisher (a subsidiary of Trek for you fellow enthusiasts out there) that I was looking forward to testing, but I had also met a lovely French girl at the Tour in France who had agreed to join me for the Cycle Ireland ride. Just call me Monsieur!

The ride was great and the weather was generally good with only a few downpours to contend with on the ride. The route begins in Cork and spans three days riding on the south-west of the country ending up in the town of Sixmilebridge where the celebrations for completing the challenge begin in earnest! The terrain along the way is fairly hilly but there are long stretched of flat country road to cruise along on. My French cycling partner though the ride was easy compared to the Tour De France, but she did admit that the countryside was beautiful.

Ireland is a place steeped in history, romance with legendary landscapes and excellent biking roads. In fact, the amount of cycling paths is about the same as in England. With its mild climate and beautiful scenery, you come across more sheep than cars while cycling in Ireland!

Fascinating history, lively culture, perfect pints of Guinness and friendly people add to the allure of cycling in Ireland. Not to mention the health benefits of cycling. The famed potato famine, mystical stone circles and legends of the pirate queen Grace O’Malley, are just some bits of an ancient history that is both mysterious and romantic. In fact, a typical day’s cycling can easily encompass about 3000 years of history.

It was while looking up military injuries claims that I read about the joys of cycling in Ireland. It offers the best way of discovering the land and travel through it. The Irish are great conversationalists, or should I say story-tellers? The lack of a language barrier is a big advantage, I must add.

There are many groups that offer bike tours in Ireland. Some of them cater to first-time peddlers while others are geared towards stronger cyclists. Though the weather is mild, it is always best to be prepared for a bit of rain.

If you are traveling from England, you can opt for the ferry or fly down. Some of the ferries are the Norfolkline, the Stena Line, the Irish Ferries and the Swansea Cork Ferries. The popular airlines are Aerlingus, and Aerarann.

Once you are there, you will be bowled over by the gorgeous ancient land that is so scenic you may be tempted to extend your holiday!
